Australian GP Full Results | Mercedes hold off Ferrari to score dominant one-two in Melbourne

It was by no means an easy start for Mercedes, as Russell began the race low on battery, allowing a charging Charles Leclerc to make ground from P4 and take the lead of the race. Meanwhile, Antonelli dropped several positions thanks to a sluggish start.

What followed was an epic battle in the opening part of the Grand Prix, with Leclerc and Russell exchanging the lead on several occasions, while Hamilton stuck close behind.

Three VSCs were brought out in Melbourne, the first for an engine issue that ended Isack Hadjar's Red Bull debut. While Mercedes opted for a one-stop strategy from mediums to hards, Ferrari stayed out, eventually losing track position but hoping to catch the Silver Arrows on fresher tyres.

For Leclerc and Hamilton it wasn't to be, but it was an encouraging performance from the Scuderia, particularly the latter who was catching Leclerc to just one second off in the final lap.

Meanwhile, it was heartbreak for Oscar Piastri, whose home race ended before it even began, as the Aussie crashed out on his way to the grid prior to the race. Audi's Hulkenberg also failed to start the race.

Other VSCs came out for Bottas, who stopped in pit entry due to a suspected engine problem, and debris from teammate Perez's bargeboard.
