Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack is very pleased with his team's result, he told Sky Sports after the Canadian Grand Prix. The Luxembourger also explains the on-board comments to star driver Fernando Alonso.
The Montreal Grand Prix was shaded with a circle on the British racing stable's calendar. After all, it was the home race of driver Lance Stroll and father, also owner, Lawrence Stroll. The team owner even expressed prior to the race weekend that he was hoping for a double podium finish. It became one. Fernando Alonso finished in second place, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and behind Max Verstappen.

Problems with fuel systems

During the race, the Spaniard heard he had to 'lift and coast', which amounts to releasing the throttle early before a corner to save fuel. Team boss Mike Krack explained afterwards why Alonso was unable to go full throttle:"After about a third of the race, we suspected that we had a problem with the fuel systems," revealed the Luxembourg native. "We then decided to play it safe, because at times like that you have to bring the car home with what you have."

Not Red Bull-level

'Disappointingly', it emerged afterwards that Alonso's AMR23 was found to be problem-free. Nevertheless, Krack was happy with the result and doesn't think it would have made a big difference. "Despite the lift and coasting, the pace was great. We might have been a little bit faster, but I don't think we could have matched Red Bull's level," he said. In the end, he is happy with his team's result. "We got both cars in the points, while Lance even started from the back."
