Aston Martin received two separate fines after qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix. Two different incidents involving their two cars mean the Silverstone-based team will have to pay up in Montreal.
The first incident involved an unsafe release of
Fernando Alonso in the pit lane. Franco Colapinto’s path was compromised as the two-time
Formula 1 world champion entered the fast lane. For the incident,
Aston Martin F1 Team was fined €5,000.
In their verdict, the stewards wrote: "It was apparent that Car 43 had to swerve and locked the front wheels to avoid a collision with Car 14. This was determined by the Stewards to be an unsafe release."
Moreover, the team was also investigated for releasing
Lance Stroll's car in unsafe conditions, as the wheel covers were still attached to the AMR26. For this incident, the fine was set at €7,500. This means the Silverstone-based team has to pay €12,500 in total after Saturday.
The FIA stewards added: "On its way down the pit lane at the start of the session, Car 18 lost an outer wheel trim. Then, on its first lap, the inner wheel cover also dislodged. This particular part, although made from carbon fibre, is still potentially dangerous if it hit another car or a person. The driver was not aware of the situation and the team admitted that part of its inspection process had overlooked the correct fixation of the securing devices for these pieces. The team undertook to thoroughly review its inspection process. The penalty is higher than for an unsafe release due to the fact that the car was on the track when the second piece dislodged."
Racing Bulls also fined
Aston Martin
F1 Team is not the first team this weekend to receive a fine from the stewards. Racing Bulls was
fined €30,000, €20,000 of which is suspended for a 12-month period, after the CDS did not work on Liam Lawson's car when it stopped on track during Sprint Qualifying.
