More tense moments between the two Mercedes drivers, with Kimi Antonelli coming close to hitting his teammate as Russell reclaimed the lead during the opening stages of the Canadian Grand Prix. After two aborted starts delayed the beginning of the Canadian Grand Prix, Lando Norris produced a superb launch once the lights finally went out, jumping both Mercedes drivers into Turn 1 to take the lead.
The move ultimately proved pointless, however, as McLaren’s decision to start on intermediate tyres immediately backfired. Norris and his teammate were both forced to pit within the opening laps, handing the advantage back to the drivers on slicks and allowing Antonelli to move into the lead ahead of Russell.
The Mercedes duo soon found themselves battling each other once again, with Russell closing back in on lap six before making his move down the back straight to retake P1. Antonelli almost slammed into the back of his teammate under braking, locking up heavily and running deep into the corner as he narrowly avoided contact. The two went wheel-to-wheel once again a few laps later, although Russell managed to hold on to the lead this time around.
