Antonelli impresses Mercedes during test days in Imola

After three days of Formula 2 testing in Barcelona, Andrea Kimi Antonelli is back on form in Imola. The young Italian drove flawless and fast laps in the Mercedes W13 last week.

Since it became clear that the Italian has a chance of winning Lewis Hamilton's seat at Mercedes, the spotlight has not moved away from Kimi Antonelli. A serious testing programme has been set up to prepare Antonelli for a possible place in Formula 1.

This week, the test programme began in Imola, Italy. On Monday, the focus was on getting used to the car for 17-year-old Antonelli. Throughout the day, Antonelli drove flawlessly, covering five hundred kilometres. In 2022, George Russell drove one second faster in the same car during the second free practice of that season.

Tuesday also went flawlessly for the Italian. This day was all about test starts and learning procedures. Despite the perfect track conditions and driving with little fuel, this showed a lot of the young driver's talent.
