The Formula 1 world is mainly focused on the battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen this season. The fight is also much in the British media, although Fernando Alonso sees a clear trend.
Indeed, the Spaniard believes that Hamilton gets a lot of support because of his origins. "When things get a bit hot or when the title fight threatens to get exciting, this sport proves to be a very British environment," the driver stated in conversation with Motorsport.com. "Almost all the teams are British, most of your journalists and the TV crews are also British. This explains why the guest from your country is preferred so that he can continue to win."
The two-time world champion remembers this situation well from the past. "I always had the feeling: when I was racing against British drivers, it seemed like I was always 'the bad guy' in the press. At least that's how they wanted to portray me. When I saw the moment at Silverstone and also heard the questions Verstappen received from the British press afterwards, I could understand his position very well."

Alonso in battle with Hamilton

Alonso helped the Dutchman quite a bit during the Hungarian Grand Prix by keeping Hamilton behind him for a long time. As a result, the Englishman ultimately failed to secure victory.
