The Formula 2 championship is heating up with round four taking place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. Richard Verschoor currently leads the championship, but with Leonardo Fornaroli close behind, that could all change. Before the Imola Grand Prix Formula 2 race could even start, the formation lap stalled when Sebastian Montoya had a problem getting away from his start position. This happened again at the start when Victor Martins also had an issue starting the race from P3.
Dino Beganovic started the race on pole position and kept his lead until lap six, when he pitted. He was not the only one, as Fornaroli, Arvid Lindblad, and Alex Dunne also entered the pits.
The undercut strategy did not work for Beganovic, as on lap eight he was undercut by teammate Luke Browning.
Safety car changes the race
On lap 14, Rafael Villagomez went off track after a minor collision, triggering a yellow flag. Two laps later, a safety car was called.
On lap 18, racing resumed, where Dunne immediately began to carve his way through the pack. In only nine laps, Dunne managed to get into first place on lap 28 out of 35.
Despite trying to chase him down for the second half of the race, Browning was unable to catch up to Dunne. Dunne took home first place with a gap of over seven seconds while Browning and Beganovic were a second off each other.
This is Alex Dunne's second feature race win.
