Albon disappointed by DNF: "We could have done something"

Alexander Albon didn't have the happiest of races in Germany as he was forced to retire. The Red Bull Racing driver locked up early on and had to pit for new tyres before he wanted to, before receiving a penalty for a clash with Daniil Kvyat. Eventually, he was forced to retire with a power unit problem.

Afterwards he told Sky Sports that the problems with his car were the reason for the retirement. “We wouldn’t have boxed if there was no issue. I mean, we had the lockup in lap one and that just compromised our race really. It’s a little bit of a shame because the car is quick." Albon knows that more would have been possible if his Red Bull had stayed in one piece.

Due to the problems of Valtteri Bottas, Albon had a chance for a good result and maybe even a podium. Because of his own problems, that never really became a possibility. “I don’t know how it would’ve played out, but obviously with Valtteri having issues we could have done something." Looking back at the race, Albon sees where the problems came from.

"On the first stint we were pretty slow because of the flatspot. I'm sure there was pace in the care." The bigger problems arose between him and Kvyat. "We had a good restart and Dani ran a bit wide. It was a little bit of misjudging on my side. I don’t really know what happened," Albon concludes.
