In the Formula 1 podcast of De Telegraaf, Christijan Albers reflects on Max Verstappen's difficult weekend in Hungary. According to the former F1 driver, the race shows where things are consistently going wrong this season at Red Bull Racing.
After the second stop, Red Bull still hoped for a comeback, partly fueled by race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. "After that second stop, I did expect something to happen, that was also the goal. "
"GP was kind of teasing him, he had nothing to lose anyway. I think they also thought: we might be able to drive up to fifth place, but he just ended up ninth."
"That just shows him once again how many problems he has, but of course, it is also a very difficult circuit to overtake,” begins Albers.

Albers: ‘Verstappen really showed his balls there’

The RB21 turns out to be extremely dependent on fast turns, and there are very few of those at the Hungaroring. Albers finds the moment with Lewis Hamilton very telling. "There, Max really showed his balls."
"He got half next to him, it was not far enough [alongside], but that shows how much confidence he has and how much more speed he takes through that turn than, for example, a Ferrari."
"Red Bull didn't get one, but actually two beatings here," Albers added.
"And that was basically quite simple: just not enough downforce, so also little drag. With less downforce and mechanical grip, '[it's] just not right."
"Yes, and then everyone is surprised that it's going so badly. Yes, I was not surprised", concluded Albers.
