Daniel Ricciardo finished outside the points with a twelfth place during the Mexican Grand Prix, but that doesn't mean he didn't play an important role in the race. He has some explaining to do to Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen battled for the front position at the start. In the end, it was the Dutchman who won the battle and took the front spot, but the situation was not over yet. As Bottas took the short corner, he collided hard with Ricciardo.
Race control looked into the moment extensively, but decided not to intervene. Nevertheless, Ricciardo took responsibility for the incident afterwards. In an interview with Ziggo Sport he was clear about the performance of Verstappen and himself. "Maxico, that's what you call it, right? He did it at the start. Congrats to Max, but no congrats to me," Ricciardo said.

Disappointing race for Bottas

Bottas had to start from the back of the grid and try to get to the front. Partly due to a disappointing pit stop the Finn couldn't get any further than fifteenth position. He did manage to take the fastest lap from Verstappen.
