Leclerc has podium hopes in Turkey: "Hopefully the track is still slippery"

The extremely slippery track of Istanbul Park was a major source of irritation for the drivers last year. For the next edition, the organisation has taken measures: the asphalt has been water blasted to make it rougher and to create more grip. However, there is one man who would like to see the circuit in the same condition as in 2020: Charles Leclerc.

The 2020 Turkish Grand Prix was a celebration for Ferrari, with Sebastian Vettel managing to make the podium from 12th on the grid, and Leclerc driving from 14th to fourth. "I was one of the few who was happy with the slippery conditions, because we were competitive and could compete for very good places," Leclerc told Autosport.com.

Leclerc hopes for slippery Istanbul Park

"Obviously a podium was possible," continued the Monegasque. "I enjoyed that weekend – it didn’t end up the way I wanted, by being just under the podium, being fourth. But overall it was a positive weekend for us, and I hope we can reproduce that this year."

So as far as Leclerc is concerned, the tarmac may be as slippery as last year. "I don't think it will be as bad, but hopefully it will still be slippery and we can take advantage of that," said the Ferrari driver.
