The Belgian Grand Prix looked like it was going to be a spectacle due to the heavy rainfall, but nothing was further from the truth. Race control decided to abandon the race, leaving the fans in the stands with nothing to see.

Alfa Romeo says in a statement on social media that they understand the decision of the race committee, but also realize that the situation for the spectators was not ideal. The team of Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räkkönen, therefore, expresses its support on Twitter towards all the people along the track.

"This outcome hurts us all, but in particular it hurts fans of the sport, who didn't get the show they came to see," the statement read. "We hope lessons were learnt yesterday, lessons that will improve the way we operate in the future and that put the supporters of our sport in the position they deserve to be."

Alfa Romeo expresses thanks

At the end of the message, Alfa Romeo thanks the fans again for their presence in Belgium. "Once again, our genuine thanks go to all the fans - you were the ones to truly shine yesterday in Spa."
