For Racing Point, the first GP weekend of 2020 did not go as expected. With a sixth place for Sergio Perez the race was still reasonable, but direct competitor McLaren gained much more points in the constructors' championship with a third and fifth place. Both drivers of Racing Point therefore see that they have missed a chance of a good classification.

"We had to fight a lot today. Sixth place is a good start, but a better position would have been possible. We came out unhappy with the safety cars, but it's too easy to say afterwards that we should have stopped for new tyres", Perez looks back in a press release from the team. "I had to defend against drivers with better tyres."

Many points were possible

The Mexican driver was satisfied with a sixth place in the end. "It was a good race to learn about the car performance. We are competitive and I think we can go for a good result next week". Lance Stroll, on the other hand, was a little less positive about the race. He quickly dropped out with engine problems.

"We had a good start, but we soon had engine problems. We tried a number of different settings, but in the end we had to stop the car. We have to take a good look at the problem and come back stronger. The car felt good and I think we could have scored a lot of points," Stroll said.
