Despite taking every single pole position since the summer break and locking out the front row for the last two races, Ferrari have only taken three wins and have gone three races without a win now, and team principal Mattia Binotto realises this has to improve in the final three races of the season.

Despite getting off the line well in Mexico, coming out of the first sequence of corners in first and second, it all went wrong for Ferrari after the pit stops. Charles Leclerc got put on a two-stop strategy and Sebastian Vettel got undercut by Lewis Hamilton, with the latter eventually winning the race.

A miscalculation from the Italian team as the F1 circus now travels to Austin for this weekend's United States Grand Prix, a circuit where they were victorious for the first time last year as Kimi Raikkonen won his first F1 race in over five years.

Good memories for Ferrari but plenty of concerns heading into the weekend as well, Binotto knows, but the Italian remains positive when looking at the grand scheme of things.

"We have started the last six races from pole position but have only gone on to win three of them and we certainly want to do better than that," the 49-year-old said when previewing the action at the Circuit of the Americas.

"We are encouraged by the fact that we now have a package that allows us to fight for wins on most tracks. It's a significant improvement on how we started the year and credit must go to all the people in Maranello and at the track, who have worked so hard to fight back from where we started."

Hamilton has won five of the seven Grands Prix at COTA and to get the better of the Brit, Binotto knows it's all about the tyres and managing them at the tricky F1 purpose-built track.

"Of course everyone will be looking to see what happens with the tyres after the surprising longevity of Pirelli's hard compound last week in Mexico.

"We are aware that every track can produce its own particular surprises and our aim is to be ready to react to whatever situation might arise."
