Hulkenberg: "Today was quite reasonable for us"

Nico Hulkenberg has reflected on his opening two sessions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in positive fashion revealing the car "felt good from the get go"

Hulkenberg recorded the best finish for Renault on Friday in Mexico, as his time of 1:18.261 was good enough for a ninth-place finish in FP2. He finished above his teammate in the first two practice sessions and the German admitted he was pretty satisfied with the showing.

“Today was quite reasonable for us," Hulkenberg said.

"The sessions felt a little short with the red flags and our programme of running slightly later, but we got through what we needed to do and the car felt good from the get-go this morning."

Many drivers have struggled with managing the soft tyres at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and Hulkenberg identified this as a familiar problem.

"The Soft is a challenging tyre and it’s quite similar to last year with graining an obvious problem. It’s quite difficult to manage but you do what you can out there. I felt comfortable in the car so, overall, a decent Friday and a solid start to the weekend.”
