Fernando Alonso only retired from Formula 1 last year but reports are suggesting that he could be set for a return to the sport with Ferrari rather than McLaren.
The Spaniard retired from Formula 1 in 2018 and was replaced by Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz at McLaren in a complete overhaul of their lineup. He failed to qualify for the Indy 500 proper as his bid for the triple crown goes on for another year.
Despite leaving the pinnacle of motorsport to chase the elusive final jewel in the crown, Alonso could be set for an early return, but not with McLaren rather with his old team, Ferrari.
According to reports coming out of Spain and Marca, the two-time World Champion fancies a go in the Scuderia's car and he could come in to take the place of Sebastian Vettel. With pressure piling up on the German after a tough start to the season as well as the arrival of Charles Leclerc it could well be time for him to move on.
With Vettel's future uncertain could Alonso be the man to partner Leclerc and bring the glory days back to Ferrari?
