Honda technical director Toyoharu Tanabe was happy to see three of four Honda-powered cars finish in the points during the Chinese Grand Prix, as the fourth one in Daniil Kvyat retired after an early collision.

Max Verstappen finished fourth for Red Bull, while his teammate Pierre Gasly finished two places behind him in sixth. For Toro Rosso, the other Honda-powered team, Alexander Albon did well to finish 10th after starting the race from last place after crashing his car in FP3.

"It is good to have three cars in the points again, even if we were unable to finish on the podium," Tanabe reflected on the weekend.

"Max did a very good job to split the Ferraris to end up fourth. Pierre has now scored points in the last two races and also got the race fastest lap today, which is good news for everyone in the team. I hope he will carry this momentum into the upcoming races.

"As for Toro Rosso, Alex did incredibly well to come back from that very big accident on Saturday morning and go from pit lane to tenth at the flag and pick up another point."

On the technical side of things, Tanabe was happy to announce his team again got closer to Ferrari and Mercedes in terms of performance.

"It was also another weekend when we saw a clear gap between the top runners. We will keep pushing hard on the development front in order to close that gap for further races."
