Liam Lawson has quickly asserted himself as a ruthless racer, but also as someone who dares to speak his mind. In the Red Flags podcast, the Visa Cash App RB driver has once again made his presence known with a comment about McLaren. As the young driver from New Zealand eyes a permanent seat next season, possibly alongside Max Verstappen in Red Bull, Lawson shares his opinions about the team's rival.
Lawson has called 'bullsh*t' that the British national anthem is played when McLaren win a Grand Prix. According to the driver, the New Zealand anthem should actually be played because the team's founder Bruce McLaren was a New Zealander.

'Red Bull from Austria, McLaren from New Zealand'

"Red Bull play the Austrian national anthem and the team’s based in the UK. McLaren’s based in the UK, but it’s a New Zealand team," said Lawson. “It’s complete bullsh*t, to be honest. It makes no sense,”
According to Lawson, New Zealand residents do not understand why McLaren is not considered a team from that country, given the status and history of the racing team. “It’s a New Zealand team, the name is still McLaren. I have no idea. Honestly, especially if you’re from New Zealand – because Bruce McLaren is an absolute legend,” concluded the VCARB driver.
