Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean has hailed his first run in Q3 during qualifying in Abu Dhabi as one of the best laps of his career, as the Frenchman finished best of the rest in P7 for the American team.

His lap might not stand out as much when looking at the table, as he finished half a second behind Max Verstappen in P6 and less than a tenth in front of rookie Charles Leclerc's Sauber in P8. However, he was over a second quicker than teammate Kevin Magnussen who finished down in P13. The Dane is no slouch when it comes to qualifying, making Grosjean's accomplishment all the more impressive.

“It was a good qualifying," the 32-year-old was quoted by F1i.com.

"My first run in Q3 was one of the best laps of my career.

"I crossed the line and knew there was not much more on track. It was good. I was happy."

It's a spike in form compared to recent races, as Grosjean failed to start or finish anywhere near the top ten in Brazil two weekends ago. This makes him all the more pleased with his performance in Abu Dhabi.

"It was great to be in Q3 once again, adding to our tally for the year and especially at a track where we were not sure we’d be competitive.

"Tomorrow’s going to be a long race. It’s going to be interesting to see what we can do on the hypersofts, but I’m looking forward to it.”
