Franz Tost not happy with last F1 race: 'Discussions at pit wall'

The very last day before retirement. You would say you enjoy it, but this was not the case for Franz Tost. He was very angry with himself and the team because many mistakes were made during the race. Not the ideal last working day for the Austrian.

"I am angry, we were too stupid to choose a real strategy," Tost told Autobild. The eighth and 11th places for Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo were not enough to secure the seventh spot in the constructors' championship, which again would have made many millions of euros. "I had discussions at the pit wall and said we should bring Yuki in,'' says Tost, ''I was told it would work out. This is pure arithmetic."

Opportunities missed for Tsunoda

"A seventh place for Yuki was really realistic," sums up Tost. He continued: "The fact that Alonso overtakes us is really a no-go. We fucked that up because the engineers, who spend hours at the computer, failed to work out a strategy that would eventually work." All around, thankfully, there was praise for Tost. "The special thing about him is that two world champions were apprenticed to him," Helmut Marko said of his compatriot.
