Colours The Sphere Las Vegas

Could The Sphere throw a spanner in the works for F1 drivers?

This weekend, the Las Vegas Grand Prix is scheduled to take place. The recently completed Sphere in Las Vegas will be deployed this weekend for extra entertainment for viewers at home and for the crowd along the track, but can this big luminous sphere start to provide a distraction for the F1 drivers?

This October, The Sphere was officially opened in the middle of Las Vegas. The huge ball of light has 1.2 million LEDs and can display 256 million different colours. It will be used during the race weekend in Las Vegas. This will show live positions from qualifying and the race and graphics.

Driver cards and helmets will be displayed for the fans along the track. Of course, the sponsors of the race and Formula 1 can also be seen on The Sphere.

Preventing distractions

Because The Sphere is easy to see for the drivers on the track, there was some concern about possible distraction from the bright lights. To prevent this, yellow, red and blue are not shown during track action.

Via Motorsport.com, Joel Fisher, executive president of Marquee Events and Operations for MSG Entertainment, said that the Sphere is safe and complies with FIA requirements. Different colours and things were tested in the dark for this purpose. Fisher said the Exosphere will demonstrate new technological and creative capabilities this weekend.
