Sergio Perez is set to extend his stay at Force India. Now the team's future has been secured the Mexican admits he can start to secure his own future. He had been linked with Haas earlier in the season, but that rumour has since vanished.

Perez joined Force India in 2014. During his time in the cockpit, he has picked up five podiums. More than most outside of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull in the same time period. In an interview with Fox Sports, he alludes to that point.

“I think it's a great opportunity to continue with the team. When you don't have a chance at Ferrari or Mercedes, I think Force India is a very attractive option," Perez said.

“We are almost there [for 2019]. In fact, it's just a matter of days or weeks. It's just about clearing up the situation with the team."

Prior to the summer break, Perez triggered the administration talks to protect the team. This chapter was ended when Lawerence Stroll took control.

“It was a very complicated situation, where I realised I was in a position I never expected as a driver and I had to act. There were 400 jobs at risk," Perez added.

"It looks like an incredible future for the team, with a good investment that above all gives the team a lot of stability, which is what it struggled with during the past years.”

With Stroll the main backer, it looks likely that Lance Stroll will join alongside Perez.
