McLaren CEO Zak Brown admits Fernando Alonso's future could be elsewhere for next season.

Brown has thrown doubt in the air about Alonso's future with McLaren for next season.

The Spanish driver has completed two-thirds of the 'triple crown' and just needs an Indy500 win to go down in motorsport history.

McLaren are in a bit of a crisis at the moment and the future of various members of the team looks in huge doubt.

"Fernando still has to make a decision," Brown confirmed after Sunday's French Grand Prix.

"We have a very good relationship with him, he has been with us for quite a while now and ultimately it depends on what and where we will compete and how our F1 car develops.

"I'm optimistic that Fernando will stay in the McLaren family and in the Formula One car.

"As long as he feels we can take a step forward, I think F1 is something he would like to continue."

McLaren had an abysmal weekend in France, last weekend.

Eric Boullier admits that the performances from his team were terrible and one of the worst this season.

"It was our worst performances of the season and I hope an isolated case," Boullier admitted.

"We have a lot of work to do in the next couple of weeks."
