Pierre Gasly got the scare of his life in the Japanese Grand Prix when he suddenly saw a tractor driving in front of him during a red flag. The Frenchman reacted furiously towards the race organisers and his team. Damon Hill tells Sky Sports he has an idea where the problem came from.

After several serious accidents, the FIA tightened the rules during a red flag situation in recent years. Thus, it should be unthinkable to find a tractor on the track while drivers are still driving. According to Hill, in Japan it was a misunderstanding.

"If you go back to the history of races in Japan, you quite often see very keen marshals out on the track trying to bravely remove vehicles," explained the former Formula One driver. "But just a little too keen sometimes. I think sometimes there may be a breakdown in communication between the race directors and the traditional way of doing things in Japan."

FIA announces investigation

However, the FIA seems to be seriously analysing the situation, as the organisation announced immediately on Sunday that it will launch an investigation. In the end, the race in Japan still went ahead and Max Verstappen once again had himself crowned world champion.
