Mercedes is experiencing a difficult season in Formula 1. The German racing team built a different type of car than the competition prior to the race year, which has left them well behind Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. Although the confidence is still there, behind the scenes at Mercedes there are real noises.

The team of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton had an excellent race weekend in Canada. The drivers finished fourth and third respectively, scoring plenty of points for their team.

Mercedes also made a very good impression in Barcelona, but at other tracks it became painfully clear that the formation still has a long way to go to compete with the top teams. In Monaco and Azerbaijan, for example, Russell and Hamilton suffered from porpoising.

Mercedes sees that competition is still a long way off

Auto, Motor und Sport spoke behind the scenes with an engineer who stated that Mercedes still has plenty of work to do. "Our performance at the moment depends only on the set-up. But no set-up in the world will make this car a Red Bull or a Ferrari," he revealed.
