George Russell has made a good start to finishing in the top five in every race this season today, as he finished fifth in qualifying, behind the Ferrari and Red Bull drivers. Despite a strong performance and claiming 'the best of the rest' spot, the Brit was shocked to see the gap between him and pole position.

"It's shocking when you cross the line to see that you are 1 and a bit seconds behind pole position," he told Sky Sports, after stating: "I think the lap felt good, the car felt good."

Mercedes hopeful of finding performance soon

Mercedes are still yet to find the pace expected from them this season, but Russell admitted that this weekend has allowed a better understanding of where to improve.

"This weekend has brought out the strengths and weaknesses of all of us. We expect so much from ourselves and we are working so hard to bring the performance to our car."

Did he give a deliberate tow to Lewis Hamilton?

"I was asked that question a few times. No, I aborted my lap and it happened I was just ahead and he took the benefit on that lap."
