Last season, two Dutchmen were active in the gateway to Formula 1. With two podium finishes (in Monza and Saudi-Arabia) Bent Viscaal had a great debut year in Formula 2. Of course, Viscaal hopes for a nice sequel in 2022.Click here to watch the whole interview with Bent Viscaal

It is still unclear where and in which race class Viscaal will be active next year. Initially, the focus is on a longer stay in Formula 2. He told GPblog that negotiations with teams are ongoing. "I can't say much about that yet," Viscaal said. "They are the logical options, I think." At Trident, both seats for next year are still vacant. Viscaal was not active for his current team during the winter test in Abu Dhabi. A bad omen perhaps? " No, not really," says Viscaal.

Next season there will be two Dutch teams active in Formula 2. MP Motorsport has already announced the two drivers for the new year. VAR - that makes its debut at this level - of owner Frits van Amersfoort still has two places available. During the winter test the team was active for the first time, without a Dutchman behind the wheel of the car. No Dutchmen in a Dutch team, it would be a pity. "Who knows, maybe next year. I hope so", Viscaal smiles. "Indeed, VAR hasn't announced any drivers yet. There are still a few teams who haven't quite got that clear yet. "

Long distance racing

For now, Viscaal's focus is on racing in Formula cars, he says. Yet he is already thinking about the further future. Long distance racing would be a possibility. "LPMP2 or GTE or something like that, that could be a good option of course. No, I have never driven such cars. I have talked to people who have also made that switch. They say it feels quite natural. I'm not afraid of that.
