Gerhard Berger, who previously raced alongside Ayrton Senna, says he can identify similarities between Senna and Lewis Hamilton. The 34-year-old won his sixth F1 world championship last weekend, is also labelled as a "complete" driver by Berger.
Berger was a teammate of Senna's for two seasons at McLaren. Often, Hamilton has made references to how Senna inspired the Brit in his childhood days. Berger's comments will surely be one of the biggest praises the world champion has received.
“I have been asked a lot about young drivers coming up, ‘Do you see Senna in them’, and I always say: ‘No, Senna was different, he wasn’t comparable.’ But now Lewis reminds me very much of Ayrton in how he performs every time. Under difficult circumstances, on street circuits, quick circuits, in rain and dry, in reading the race, in being fit, in the politics. Lewis is, like Ayrton, complete," Berger told The Guardian.
“He has a very special personality. Nobody could beat Ayrton’s charm but Lewis, the way he promotes the sport around the world, especially in America and to new audiences, is outstanding too. For me, Lewis is the man.”
Hamilton is now one title behind Michael Schumacher's record tally of seven world championships. Since winning his latest title, Hamilton has revealed he has no intentions of retiring any time soon.
