The forecast for this weekend's MotoGP French Grand Prix in Le Mans could be under threat as heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the area throughout the weekend.
At present, it seems that Friday will be the clearest of the three days, though some light rain is still forecast in the afternoon at around 20% precipitation. As for Saturday, that number jumps to around 45% by 15:00, which is when the sprint race is due to begin. It would be the second wet sprint race in a row after a dramatic one last week in Jerez, which saw Marc Marquez take the victory despite crashing in the changing conditions.
Sunday's forecast is arguably even worse with around 65% precipitation and thunderstorms forecast right around midday, which will likely impact the Moto2 and Moto3 races as well.

Last year, Le Mans provided us with arguably the most spectacular wet weather race in its history with home hero Johann Zarco surviving while others fell to claim a historic win - becoming the first French rider to win the French Grand Prix in 71 years.

As we head into the race weekend, Marco Bezzecchi still leads the championship standings from his teammate Jorge Martin in 2nd place. Marc Marquez hasn't had the best start to 2026 so far and has failed to reach a single Sunday podium so far, however two sprint victories keep him in contention in 5th place overall.
French riders Johann Zarco and Fabio Quartararo certainly won't be favourites to win coming into the weekend, though both showed signs of improvement in the Jerez race compared to their performances in the opening three rounds. The wet weather could be exactly the ticket they need to give themselves a chance of victory.
