One comment under GPblog's F1 Paddock Update about the winner of the Hungarian Grand Prix read: "Anyone who's met or knows Norris in real life knows he's not who he tries so hard to be in public. We've seen glimpses of the real him slip through the cracks."
Ben Hunt, GPblog's lead columnist, reacted: "The personality thing with Norris is really interesting because like all young guys growing up in a public eye, they've got a lot to contend with. We're talking about loads of eyeballs and people criticizing him. His relationships are always under the microscope. He has very little breathing room, and it must be horrible to live life like that.

"I remember talking to George Russell before, and he said he found it quite hard with people sort of following him in the street and stuff. But like that presence of being spotted when you're in your own time, it must be quite, tricky to adapt to, especially if you're a young man. So, in terms of his personality, yes, he can be quite, quite different. I think the one thing with him is that he is an emotional guy.

"We’ve heard him, we've seen him, he's not afraid to hide his emotions. He's also incredibly hard on himself as well. But, you know, the personality does flip, it's not always 100 laughing and joking like Daniel [Ricciardo] was, Daniel pretty much 98% of his time was always having a laugh, always smiling, whereas Norris is probably about 50-50 and it depends on what day you get him.
"The other day at the British Grand Prix in the conference, he was all smiles and laughing and he was sat next to Lance Stroll and the juxtaposition between the two was so evident and wonderful. It was great. But he does have downtime and he does have time where he can come across a little bit moody and frustrated and surly, but that's in all of us, isn't it?
"And I don't think that we can criticize, it's just that we need to be mindful that you know that you can't be one way or the other all the time."

Why is Norris a polarizing figure?
He also highlighted that Norris is not as universally liked as Ricciardo was. "Norris does polarize opinions, hugely popular in the UK, but maybe not outside these, you know, this country. And it's because people maybe don't always relate to his personality at that moment in time, because he does flip between the moody, stressed, hard on himself, and then all of a sudden, he's lighter than air, laughing and joking. So he's quite a wide spectrum of emotions. And I think that's probably why people struggle to nail him down to one particular type."
