The first major incident of the session occured roughly 25 minutes in when Marc Marquez crashed at over 190 km/h at the high speed Turn 10.

Despite the initial shocking images in which he was embedded in the air fence with a wrecked Ducati, Marc returned to the pits and in his classic determined style, returned to the bike and finished in the top five.

Pedro Acosta finished the session on top ahead of VR46's Fabio Di Giannantonio. Jorge Martin also looked very solid in third place while Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi finished in P9.

Luca Marini was impressive on the Honda, finishing ahead of Trackhouse's Ai Ogura. However it was further disappointment for the rest of the Honda team, as well as Yamaha, whose best rider was Jack Miller in P12.

The first session of the weekend at the MotoGP USA Grand Prix kicked off in the worst way possible for race favourite Marc Marquez as he crashed out at Turn 10 and went straight into the air fence.
