Just days before the Canadian Grand Prix in June, an Italian media outlet reported speculation that Frederic Vasseur’s position was at risk, with Antonella Coletta, head of the WEC division, reportedly ready to replace him at the end of the season.
These rumors, however, proved unfounded, as Ferrari confirmed the Frenchman’s stay with a multi-year contract extension a few weeks later, effectively putting the speculation to rest.
Vasseur’s reaction to the rumors in Montreal caused quite a stir, with the Frenchman visibly angered during the press conference by the leaked information, which ultimately turned out not to be true.
Appearing on the
F1 Beyond the Grid podcast, the Ferrari team principal revisited the incident, clarifying his position.
Cadillac is set to become the 11th team on the
Formula 1 grid next year, and has previously announced experienced drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez as its full-time competitors for its debut campaign in the competition.
Joining from the IndyCar series, it is now also official that Colton Herta will be Cadillac's test driver for the upcoming campaign. It is also official that he will no longer compete in IndyCar next year. He will also compete in F2, CEO Dan Towriss confirmed.
"I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Cadillac Formula 1 Team as a Test Driver. This is a dream opportunity, and one I’ve been working towards for a long time. To be part of Cadillac F1’s entry at such a pivotal time is something I couldn’t pass up," Herta began in the team's press release about this next opportunity.
"My dream has always been to race in Formula 1, and I see this move as a huge step towards that goal. For now, my focus is on giving everything I can to Cadillac F1, helping build a competitive team.”
