In Sprint Qualifying,
Lando Norris broke Mercedes' streak of claiming every pole position so far in the 2026 season. The defending world champion was around two tenths faster than
Kimi Antonelli and was the only driver to set a lap time below 1:29.
Oscar Piastri completed the top three, while
George Russell finished sixth.
Ferrari hopes to make strides in qualifying in the United States after a rather disappointing SQ3 for the Scuderia.
Charles Leclerc and
Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and seventh respectively after being higher up the scoresheets on the mediums in the first two sessions.
Max Verstappen was rather positive about the step forward for Red Bull Racing, after he finished in fifth place. He said:
"It feels more together. Of course, there are still things that we are working on, but it's been a really positive step for us. Last few races we were like over a second behind. I would say we have almost halved that gap now, so that's positive."In today's qualifying, there will be no tyre restrictions, meaning soft tyres can already be fitted in Q1. The session begins at 21:00 UK time (16:00 local time).
