Red Bull Racing and Ferrari have opted to drive with the Mercedes concept in terms of the rear axle in 2021. Toto Wolff's team was very successful last season with the idea of resting the rear axle support arm between the gearbox housing and the crash structure.
The special construction allowed Mercedes to optimise its speed in the slow corners. In addition to improved aerodynamics, it also provided a greater mechanical advantage. Red Bull and Ferrari are convinced of the added value and seem to have deployed their two tokens at the back of the car to be on par with Mercedes.

McLaren can't keep up

Auto Motor und Sport reports all this. According to the German medium, McLaren also looked at the same rear axle, but it proved impossible for the Woking-based racing team due to the engine switch to Mercedes. In order for the concept to work fully, the gearbox housing needs to be modified. The team didn't have enough tokens left to make the necessary adjustments.
How much time it will save is not clear. We will have to wait until the end of March when the Bahrain Grand Prix is scheduled.
