Sergio Perez completed his comeback at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen's teammate drove from P9 to P3. At the end of the race, Perez seemed to have the speed to still move into second place, but he did not manage to push through to the end.
During qualifying on Saturday, Perez again disappointed. He did get into Q3, but despite that he did not get beyond P9. In the race, things went a lot better. The Red Bull driver had a nice fight with Oscar Piastri, and then seemed to be driving towards Norris. However, the Mexican ran into stragglers, and then could not pick up the pace. Lewis Hamilton even almost came back from a big deficit.

Perez happy after Hungary GP

"We got close to P2. Unfortunately we got through a lot of backmarkers. The track was unbelievably dirty off line, so in the last laps I had some pick-up going through the backmarkers, and that meant that I lost a few seconds. I recovered towards the end but it was just too late," Checo told Nico Rosberg.
"I think overall it was a great strategy by the team and we managed to have an excellent result. I think this sort of performance, these sort of days do help, and from now on I just look forward to basically being on the podium every single weekend, so let’s keep it up," Perez concluded.
