Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg is the son of Finnish Formula 1 World Champion Keke Rosberg and a former German Formula 1 driver. He rose to global fame for his intense title battle with teammate Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2016. That year, Rosberg claimed his first and only world title before immediately announcing his retirement. Today, he works as a regular analyst for Sky Sports.

The career of Nico Rosberg

Rosberg first got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in 2002 during a test with Williams-BMW. In 2005, he became the team’s reserve driver and made his debut for Williams in 2006. He raced for the team until the end of 2009, but due to an uncompetitive car, major successes were out of reach.
In 2010, Rosberg switched to Mercedes, where he first partnered with Michael Schumacher and later with Lewis Hamilton. He took his maiden Formula 1 victory at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix. In 2014 and 2015, he finished runner-up behind Hamilton, but in 2016, he finally beat his rival by just five points. The season was packed with tension, with the Spanish Grand Prix incident – where both drivers crashed out – as a dramatic highlight. Rosberg became the third German F1 World Champion in history and announced his retirement just five days after securing the title.

Rosberg as a Sky Sports analyst

After several years away from the paddock, Rosberg returned as a regular analyst for Sky Sports. He discusses everything surrounding race weekends and often conducts interviews immediately after qualifying or the Grand Prix. He also runs Rosberg Ventures, an investment company focused on start-ups.
