Sergio Perez hoped to have a nice catch-up race during the Canadian Grand Prix, but after only eight laps the Mexican got out of his RB18. A gearbox problem prevented Perez from scoring any points. He says he is very disappointed with the technical problem.

Perez let down

"Reliability issue again, I lost drive and got stuck in gear. Don't know what really happened. Disappointed to go away without points," Perez seemed somewhat frustrated in front of the Sky Sports camera.
After strong weekends in Monaco and Azerbaijan, the 32-year-old veteran seemed to have definitively cemented himself as a serious title contender, and a zero score in Montreal then hurts tremendously. "It wasn't a perfect weekend but I still believe we were on track for a great result. It was out of turn 7 that it happened and lost drive. Having DNF's are going to be extremely painful," he added.
According to Helmut Marko, the failure of Max Verstappen's teammate could have been related to his crash in qualifying. In fact, the gearbox was at the end of its run, but should not have given up yet in terms of mileage.
