Helmut Marko is not happy with the fact that Pirelli has chosen to bring softer tyres than during the previous British Grand Prix. According to Red Bull Racing's advisor, the soft tyre is "as good as useless". Marko was also confused by Renault's decision to take the hard tyres for Friday's practice sessions.
"The soft tyre were as good as useless," Marko says in conversation with Motorsport-Magazin.com. According to the 77-year old Austrian, this is also the reason why Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon were in the pit box for so long at the end of the second free practice session. "That's why we didn't drive at all anymore."

Marko doesn't understand Renault's choice

Daniel Ricciardo held off Verstappen from third place in the afternoon session, but Marko doesn't really understand why the Australian kept driving laps on the Silverstone circuit for so long. "I don't understand why Renault already started driving with the hard tyres. They could prove to be very valuable during the race." Ricciardo and team mate Esteban Ocon were the only two drivers who tested the white compounds.
For Red Bull it looks like it's going to be a lonely weekend in the UK. Mercedes is too fast, just like last week.
