Leclerc praises team boss Vasseur: 'It's good that he's like this'

Frederic Vasseur and Charles Leclerc have known each other for years. The Frenchman allowed the now 25-year-old driver to make his Formula 1 debut during his time at Sauber, but there was regular contact even before that. Leclerc and Vasseur have been reunited at Ferrari since the start of this season and the Monegasque is very pleased with his team boss's approach.
Leclerc was asked by L'Equipe ahead of the Monaco GP whether Vasseur is now a bit less straightforward than in his youthful years: "No, he is still just as tough. And that's what I like about Fred. It's good that he's like that. Because, as I often say, once you drive in Formula 1, there are very few people who tell it like it is."

Tough, but fair

The current world championship number seven likes that approach. "On social media people criticise, but once you meet someone in real life, you only get positive feedback. So there are very few people who are honest enough to tell you straight to your face what you did wrong, for example."
Vasseur is not shy about confronting his drivers when they have gone wrong. Leclerc is very attached to that transparency and greatly appreciates his team boss for that reason.
