Lewis Hamilton has warned England fans against singing the song "Three Lions" at the FIFA World Cup. According to the seven-time world champion, the song should be reserved for the moment England win the trophy at the end of the tournament. Thomas Tuchel's side began the tournament with a 4–2 victory over Croatia, thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford. Each team is also allowed to choose a goal song and a victory song at this year’s FIFA World Cup. England selected “Chase the Sun” as their goal song and “Three Lions” as the latter. In Texas, fans were singing “It’s coming home” loudly after the match, celebrating their team’s performance in the opening game.
Ahead of the tournament, Hamilton warned fans of singing the song. Speaking to GPblog, among others, he explained: "I don't have a prediction, I don't follow it that much, that close to be honest. I'm more into MotoGP and NFL, but I mean I will tune in every now and then and I will always keep a close eye on what England is doing.
"I just hope we don't sing 'It's Coming Home' too early because that's what we normally do. Sing it once we've got it, not before. It's a great song, but jeez!"
Hamilton also has Brazil close to his heart
In Monaco, Hamilton also revealed that
he supports more than one team at the World Cup. He explained:
"Growing up in England I used to love watching Brazil play. Honestly, Brazil's always been my favourite team."The seven-time
Formula 1 world champion, who is also an honorary citizen of Brazil, added:
"They were so cool. For me, it's [Brazil] tied with England. I just appreciate where they come from, many of the players come from the streets where they play with no shoes. There's something quite special about Brazilian culture."Hamilton is currently experiencing his best stint with Ferrari. Last Sunday, he won his first Grand Prix with the team in Barcelona, after finishing second twice in Canada and Monaco. The Formula 1 season continues next weekend with the Austrian Grand Prix.
