Eddie Jordan: 'Formula 1 is very different today'

Eddie Jordan is clear. Never again will he lead a Formula One team. He says so in an interview with The Race. The founder of former racing team Jordan Grand Prix says he has a number of reasons for this.

The 72-year-old believes that the racing world is different today. “It’s so different. Not better, not worse, just different. I think it’s becoming hugely corporate, institutionalised.”

The Jordan Grand Prix saw the light of day in 1991. Jordan explains in the interview why he set up the race team. “So, the only people that would employ me was myself. I’m being a bit bitter here! But the fact is, I would never have gotten a job to run a Formula 1 team, even though I think I could have done it.”

The team had some successes such as a fifth place in the constructors' championship and Michael Schumacher made his debut with Jordan's team in the Belgian Grand Prix. However, starting in the 2000s, the team suffered from financial problems and in 2005 the Midland Group took control.
