Eddie Jordan

Eddie Jordan was an Irish former Formula 1 team boss. He became known as the founder of Jordan Grand Prix, which competed in Formula 1 between 1991 and 2005. After his career as a team principal, Jordan worked as a commentator for the BBC. He passed away in 2025 due to bladder and prostate cancer.

Eddie Jordan was born on March 30, 1948, in Dublin, Ireland. He began karting in 1970 and won the Irish Kart Championship in his debut year in 1971. In 1974, he moved into single-seaters in Formula Ford. After an accident in which he broke both legs, Jordan made a comeback and went on to compete in Formula Atlantic, British Formula 3, and Formula 2. He also received some testing opportunities with McLaren.

Following his driving career, Jordan founded his own team in 1979: Eddie Jordan Racing. In 1991, the team entered Formula 1 under the name Jordan Grand Prix. That same year, Jordan gave young Michael Schumacher his F1 debut. The team’s peak came in 1998 and 1999, with drivers such as Damon Hill and Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Jordan scored multiple podiums and race victories. In 2005, Eddie Jordan sold his team to Midland Group.

After leaving Formula 1, Jordan remained involved in the sport as an analyst and commentator. From 2009 to 2015, he was a regular face on the BBC’s coverage, and later also appeared on Channel 4. Beyond his media work, Jordan was active in business and invested in several companies. He co-owned rugby club London Irish and football club Celtic, and he also performed as a drummer in his own band.

Music was always an important outlet for Jordan. He played drums in his band Eddie & The Robbers, which performed at exclusive events and F1 parties.

Eddie Jordan’s net worth was estimated at around €600 million. He built this wealth through the sale of his F1 team, media income, investments, and commercial ventures. He was known as a sharp businessman with a strong sense of timing.

Eddie Jordan was married to his wife Marie Jordan since the 1970s. Together, they had four children: Zoe, Kyle, Zak, and Miki Jordan.

Eddie Jordan passed away on March 20, 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa, due to bladder and prostate cancer. He had been ill for some time and died surrounded by his family. Jordan was 76 years old.
