Young Andrea Kimi Antonelli hit the Dutchman on the opening lap of the Austrian Grand Prix, eliminating both of them from the running. As a result, the Dutchman left the circuit without scoring any points.
Max Verstappen currently sits third in the championship standings, trailing Oscar Piastri by 61 points. After the Austrian Grand Prix, both Christian Horner and Helmut Marko admitted that the Dutchman should no longer focus on the world title. His father, Jos Verstappen, had already voiced similar concerns before the race even began.
After Saturday at Silverstone, the outlook has changed. In a surprising yet brilliant performance, Verstappen secured pole position in front of the huge British crowd. He managed to outqualify both McLaren's and Ferrari's from nowhere after seeming to struggle in free practice. The updates brought by the Austrian team appear to be working well in the cooler conditions at this circuit.
At Silverstone, Verstappen proved that, when paired with a strong-performing Red Bull, he’s still incredibly quick. With the McLaren duo so closely matched that trouble between them seems almost inevitable, it’s clear the Dutchman is far from out of the title fight.
