An Italian outlet has named Cédric Michel-Grosjean as a possible long-term race engineer for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, although this remains unconfirmed. Even so, if the rumour proves true, it could raise a key question for Ferrari: would he be available immediately? As the team looks for a replacement for Riccardo Adami, who was recently sidelined as Hamilton’s race engineer,
Ferrari has initially turned to a stop-gap solution.
For now,
Carlo Santi is expected to be on the pit wall during next week’s Barcelona testing. It also remains possible that Bryan Bozzi will take on the role in the short term. The Italian is Charles Leclerc’s full-time race engineer and could, in principle, also support Hamilton, as only one
Ferrari car will run in Spain.
Is a McLaren engineer the solution?
Santi and Bozzi are not seen as long-term solutions. The Scuderia is still searching and may land on Michel-Grosjean—so it is reported.
He has worked at McLaren in recent years, serving last season as Lead Trackside Performance Engineer. In this role, he worked on optimizing the performance of Oscar Piastri’s car. With Michel-Grosjean, the Australian won seven Grands Prix in 2025. Michel-Grosjean departed McLaren at the end of December.
His LinkedIn page states that as of January 1 he is “moving,” without naming a new job. Perhaps that’s to
Ferrari, although it would be notable if Michel-Grosjean were to start with the Maranello-based team immediately.
It is unusual for high-ranking staff to join a rival without significant gardening leave. On the other hand, it’s not impossible either. In any case, any potential appointment at
Ferrari only makes sense if Michel-Grosjean is immediately available for Hamilton.
