The Singapore Grand Prix has built a curious reputation over the years. Despite its prestige and the drama it often produces a winner who then fails to go on to claim the world championship. In fact, the last four victors in Singapore all fell short of lifting the ultimate prize at season’s end.
This year, the race could once again prove pivotal, not just in shaping the championship narrative, but in exposing who truly has the resilience, pace, and mentality to carry the fight through the final stretch.

Is Max Back?
For
Max Verstappen, Singapore offers another chance to prove that Red Bull’s recent resurgence is no coincidence.
Wins in Baku and
Monza suggested the team had rediscovered some of the consistency that eluded them earlier this year. But was that success merely circuit-specific, or a genuine sign that they can once again contend for victories week in, week out?
Curiously, Verstappen has never triumphed at Marina Bay. His best result came last season, when he finished second, although a distant 21 seconds behind race winner
Lando Norris. A victory would carry huge symbolic weight. It would not only silence doubts over Red Bull’s competitiveness but also reignite Verstappen’s faint title hopes.
Despite currently trailing Oscar Piastri by a daunting 69 points, Verstappen remains dangerous. A win in Singapore would not erase the deficit, but it would inject belief that he can chip away at Piastri’s advantage over the remaining races. For a driver of Verstappen’s calibre, momentum can be just as important as mathematics.

Oscar’s Night
Oscar Piastri has been the revelation of the season. Calm, consistent, and clinical, he has often looked every bit the champion-in-waiting. But Baku was his first major setback.
A crash that cost him valuable points and opened the door for Verstappen to claw back some ground.
The aftermath was telling. While speculation swirled about whether the pressure of leading the championship was beginning to weigh on him, Piastri handled the media spotlight with surprising composure. He acknowledged the mistake without dwelling on it and projected the air of a driver determined to learn quickly.
Singapore will test that resilience. If he can bounce back with a strong drive, or even another victory, he will not only steady his title campaign but also send a clear message that he is mentally strong enough to absorb setbacks and keep marching forward. Should he triumph again under the Marina Bay lights, the championship could be all but his.

Norris Still in the Fight
Norris, last year’s winner in Singapore, remains an outsider in the title race. His emphatic 2024 victory in Singapore marked one of the high points of his career, showcasing both pace and tactical sharpness. Another triumph would not only boost his confidence but also breathe fresh life into his challenge.
Norris has been candid in recent interviews about adopting a new approach to pressure and setbacks. That mental resilience will be tested again in Singapore. If he wins, he positions himself as a real threat in the closing stages of the season. If he falters, however, critics may question whether he can sustain a championship push against rivals as composed as Piastri or as relentless as Verstappen.
The Bigger Picture
Beyond individual narratives, the Singapore Grand Prix has often been a race of attrition with tight corners, unforgiving barriers, and the longest race duration of the season make it as much a test of endurance as of outright speed. That unique challenge has a way of exposing weaknesses.
Whether it’s Verstappen’s bid to prove Red Bull are back, Piastri’s attempt to steady his march toward the title, or Norris’s fight to keep his hopes alive, the Marina Bay Street Circuit could well be the stage that defines the story of the 2025 season.
