Laurent Mekies will be trackside during the second pre-season test in Bahrain after being absent for medical reasons last week, Red Bull Racing has confirmed to GPblog. During the previous test at the Bahrain International Circuit, the team principal of
Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar was absent.
He underwent a minor routine medical surgery,
GPblog understands.
However, it did mean the Frenchman could not be in Bahrain last week, and worked remotely.
Mekies returns this week
Red Bull has not disclosed exactly what was wrong with Mekies. Nevertheless, the team principal has recovered sufficiently to board a plane to the Middle East and resume his duties on the pit wall on Wednesday.

It is expected that there will also be a media session with Mekies, where GPblog will of course be present. Last week it was technical director Pierre Waché who spoke with the media.
Max Verstappen may sit next to Mekies on the pit wall this Wednesday,
as Red Bull has chosen to let Isack Hadjar drive on the opening day of the test. The four-time world champion will only take to the track for the first time on Thursday.
