Pirelli will continue as Formula 1's sole tyre supplier until at least the end of the 2028 season after the FIA exercised an option to extend the Italian manufacturer's existing agreement by one year.
The extension was activated through a clause included in the contract signed between Pirelli, the FIA and Formula One Management in 2023. That agreement secured Pirelli's position as Formula 1's exclusive tyre supplier from 2025 to 2027, while also providing the possibility of a further one-year extension.
As a result, Pirelli will remain the exclusive tyre supplier not only for Formula 1 but also for the FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 championships through the end of the 2028 campaign.
The announcement provides continuity for the sport as Formula 1 prepares for a new era of regulations beginning in 2026. Pirelli has supplied tyres to Formula 1 continuously since 2011 and remains one of the championship's longest-standing technical partners.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem welcomed the extension, highlighting the company's contribution to safety, performance and innovation across the sport.
"Pirelli has been an important partner to the FIA Formula One World Championship for many years," Ben Sulayem said. "This extension through to the end of 2028 provides stability for the championship and reflects the strong collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group and Pirelli."
Pirelli Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera described Formula 1 as a crucial testing ground for future tyre technology and praised the relationship between the tyre manufacturer, the FIA and Formula One Management.
"We are pleased to extend our presence in Formula 1 by a further year, until 2028," he said. "Formula 1 represents the best laboratory for us to innovate, test cutting-edge technical solutions, and continually improve research and development processes, for the benefit of tomorrow's road tyres."
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali also expressed his satisfaction with the extension, pointing to Pirelli's role in helping the sport deliver competitive racing while continuing to develop new technologies.

"We've enjoyed an incredible history and partnership with Pirelli," Domenicali said. "As we continue to push boundaries across the technical regulatory framework, Pirelli's commitment to quality gives all the teams and series it supplies peace of mind."
The agreement ensures stability for teams and drivers as Formula 1 enters a crucial period of regulatory change, with Pirelli set to remain at the centre of the sport's technical development for at least the next three seasons.
