Ferrari continues to fight the engine trick used by Mercedes and Red Bull Ford. The issue is set for further discussion within Formula 1 in the coming days.
The teams met with the FIA last Thursday to discuss whether adjustments to engine regulations are needed, including possible changes to how the compression ratio is measured.

Ferrari keeps pushing

In the short term, however, nothing will change. This means Mercedes and Red Bull Ford teams currently hold an engine performance advantage, something Ferrari continues to contest. Enrico Gualtieri, head of Ferrari’s engine department, told GPblog and other outlets that discussions with the FIA are still ongoing, and they won't give up the fight.

“We are still discussing with them. We had a meeting, a technical meeting, a technical workshop yesterday, actually. And we are going to have an additional one in the next days up to the PUAC meeting, which is finally the Power Unit Advisory Committee,” said the Italian.
“So we are approaching the topic together with them. We are certainly trusting them for managing the topic in the proper way, going through the procedures and the governance that is in place by regulation. And we completely trust that the process could come in the next days and weeks," Gualtieri says.

Fighting a lost battle?

Honda and Audi have also called for adjustments before the start of the season to prevent Mercedes and Red Bull Ford from using their engine trick. However, that is nor realistic. It is simply too late to implement such changes, and the engines have already been homologated by the FIA.
Additionally, there is no majority support within Formula 1 for banning the trick, as six teams are set to use a power unit that employs it this season.
