This is how the brakes of a Mercedes Formula 1 car work

Formula 1 cars go faster than any other car and that also has consequences. An ordinary brake disc is then not enough to stop the car. Mike Elliot explains how braking does work.
In a new video by Peter Windsor, the former team manager of Williams invited Mike Elliot to give followers a glimpse into the braking system of a Formula 1 car. The technology director of Mercedes is able to explain in detail how the system works on the championship winning car of Lewis Hamilton.

What is particularly striking in this video is the extent to which the temperature and g-forces increase during braking. It also remains a battle between the different brake suppliers in Formula 1 for the time being. Mercedes uses those of Brembo, but there are also other brands that are working hard to conquer a place in the royal class.
