The first qualifying session of the Sprint Shootout produced a major casualty in the form of Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver saw his time taken away for exceeding track limits, resulting in him being 'dropped' to P18. The other men who failed to make SQ2 were Guanyu Zhou, Oscar Piastri, Valtteri Bottas and Logan Sargeant.
It is a dramatic Saturday for Mercedes because although George Russell did advance to the next session, he will start from P15 in the sprint race. Indeed, he was out of action due to hydraulic problems.
